THERAPEUTIC RIDING PROGRAMS
Therapeutic riding, which originated in Europe, has been actively helping individuals with disabilities since the 1950s. Therapeutic riding uses equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well being of people with disabilities and emotional issues.
Horseback activities can: encourage stretching and strengthening of underused or underdeveloped muscles; improve posture and coordination; help develop gross and fine motor skills; increase the riders awareness of their body in space; and improve their range of motion.
In addition, riders with disabilities increase their self esteem and self confidence, learn problem solving skills, and increase their ability to focus and stay on task. All of this while having fun!
While we teach riding skills to our riders, our focus is on the safety and efficiency of our therapeutic riding program.
Therapeion is the only riding program serving our community that uses instructors trained and certified in therapeutic riding by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl). The PATH difference is obvious and we encourage you to schedule a visit to see for yourself.
