Therapeutic riding, which originated in Europe, has been actively helping individuals with disabilities since the 1950's. Therapeutic riding uses equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing positively to the cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well being of people with disabilities and emotional issues.

Horseback activities encourage stretching and strengthening of underused or underdeveloped muscles, improve posture and coordination, help develop gross and fine motor skills, increase the riders awareness of their body in space, and improve their range of motion. In addition, riders with disabilities increase their self esteem and self confidence, learn problem solving skills, and increase their ability to focus and stay on task. All of this while they are having fun!

As respect and acceptance of the benefits of therapeutic riding by persons in the medical, educational, and social services fields, the number of programs in the United States continues to grow. This respect and acceptance, coupled with the continued dedication of Therapeion's volunteers, staff and supporters, helps to ensure that riders will continue to have the opportunity to benefit from their relationship with the horse.

While we teach riding skills to our riders, our focus is on the safety and efficiency of our therapeutic riding program.  Therapeion is the only riding program serving our community that uses instructors trained and certified in therapeutic riding.  We are also the only Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl) center serving a several county area.  The PATH difference is obvious. Feel free to contact us to schedule a visit to see that difference for yourself! Click on the PATH Int'l logo to the right to learn more about PATH membership, what it means to be a Premier Accredited Center (PAC), and Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT).

For information on how to enroll and the necessary form please visit our "Enroll" page.  The cost for therapeutic riding classes is $40 per week, which is $320 for the eight week session.  A discount of $20 per eight week session is given if tuition in paid in full prior to the start of classes.  Checks may be mailed to Therapeion.  Our address is on the Contact page.  You may also pay by PayPal or credit card.
