THERAPEION THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER

DONATING A HORSE TO THERAPEION TRC
Our horses are our highly valued partners. In order to participate and work with individuals that often have profound needs, we have to be highly selective when accepting horses into our program. Many horses at NARHA centers are donated by horse owners in the community. When selecting a horse to participate in a program, Therapeion is looking for a horse, pony, or mini that is suitable for Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy.
Important Note!
While minor health issues in an equine may be acceptable, please note that our horses must be sound enough to work regularly, We can not afford to take horses that have major health issues or that need extensive vet care. An ideal therapy horse is physically sound, has an easy going disposition, is between the ages of eight and fifteen, and doesn't mind being handled by several different people every day. All horses are accepted on a trial period.
Before we accept a horse we will:
Evaluate a prospective horse's conformation
Evaluate health (this will probably include a vet check)
Consider age
Examine gaits and manners of going
Observe attitude, reliability and adaptability
The breed or color of a horse is not a critical consideration in our selection process. What are most important are disposition, health, and reliability.
All horses are accepted on a 90 day trial basis.
By donating a horse to Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc.you will not only assist individuals struggling to overcome mental and physical trauma, but you may also be eligible for a tax deduction.

We are currently looking for a small draft or draft cross who is well broke to saddle, between 5 and 15 years old, and in good health. Breed, color, and conformation are unimportant. Please click here to obtain information on how to donate a horse to our program.
