RIDE FOR LIFE
Our program for battered women in recovery
THERAPEION THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER
Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center provides group therapeutic horseback riding lessons together with one-on-one interactions with trained volunteer mentors for women who have been victims of abuse.   In addition, individual lessons are available for those women who prefer privacy.  Only women who are no longer involved with their abusers are allowed to participate in the program.   All participants are required to sign confidentiality contracts upon admittance to the program.

Many books and articles have been written about the special connection between women and horses.    This connection is especially helpful in helping women who have been physically and emotionally harmed reach out and begin to trust and heal.   While learning to care for and ride a horse these women are also able to build self esteem and self confidence, steps that are necessary in the road to recovery.

The victims are assisted by volunteer mentors who are recruited from the community surrounding and receive special training. These mentors work closely with the Therapeion staff during and are active participants in the healing process.

Beside directly helping the healing process, this experience helps break the chain of abuse that travels from generation to generation as the riders learn problem solving and communication skills.

All riding lessons are provided by a Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center instructor who is certified by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.
This program is under development with plans to begin at the completion of our EMPOWER! Building Program
